Decisions, Decisions: Noise and its Effects on Integral Monte Carlo Algorithms
نویسنده
چکیده
In the present paper we examine the effects of noise on Monte Carlo algorithms, a problem raised previously by Kennedy and Kuti (Phys. Rev. Lett. 54, 2473 (1985)). We show that the effects of introducing unbiased noise into the acceptance/rejection phase of the conventional Metropolis approach are surprisingly modest, and, to a significant degree, largely controllable. We present model condensed phase numerical applications to support these conclusions. Typeset using REVTEX 1

متن کاملThe Markov Chain Monte Carlo Approach to Importance Sampling in Stochastic Programming
Stochastic programming models are large-scale optimization problems that are used to facilitate decision-making under uncertainty. Optimization algorithms for such problems need to evaluate the expected future costs of current decisions, often referred to as the recourse function. In practice, this calculation is computationally difficult as it involves the evaluation of a multidimensional inte...
متن کاملA Reliability Approach on Redesigning the Warehouses in Supply Chain with Uncertain Parameters via Integrated Monte Carlo Simulation and Tuned Artificial Neural Network
In this paper, a reliability approach on reconfiguration decisions in a supply chain network is studied based on coupling the simulation concepts and artificial neural network. In other words, due to the limited budget for warehouse relocation in a supply chain, the failure probability is assessed for determining the robust decision for future supply chain configuration. Traditional solving ...
متن کاملMonte Carlo Simulation to Solve the Linear Volterra Integral Equations of The Second Kind
This paper is intended to provide a numerical algorithm based on random sampling for solving the linear Volterra integral equations of the second kind. This method is a Monte Carlo (MC) method based on the simulation of a continuous Markov chain. To illustrate the usefulness of this technique we apply it to a test problem. Numerical results are performed in order to show the efficiency and accu...
